The Galway Food Festival returns as part of the ‘Blas Na Gaillimhe – A Taste of Galway’ network of food organisations that recognise the distinctive hospitality that Galway provides all year long, with special events planned for the month of May.
2024 Food Festival Highlights 🥗
Prepare your taste buds for a journey to Brazil right in the heart of Salthill at Chef Laura Rosso’s Feijoada weekend. Savor the richness of slow-cooked pork and black beans stew, served with authentic Brazilian accompaniments. Meanwhile, Aniar in Galway’s west end on Dominick Street tantalizes with a pop-up oyster bar, showcasing the finest Irish oysters paired with wild garnishes.
For those craving hands-on experiences, join Jess Murphy and Pasta Tony at Massimo Bar for a pasta-making masterclass, complemented by Italian salads and fine wines. Dive deeper into Ireland’s culinary heritage with immersive tours by Galway Food Tours and Fable Tours.
Sheridans Cheesemongers invites you to taste Galway’s finest cheeses paired with European wines and Irish cider. Embark on a culinary and cultural journey with POTA Café, indulging in a 7-course tasting menu intertwined with the history of Loch Lurgan.
Sip on bubbly, rosé, and light reds at Trieste Café & Wine Bar, perfectly paired with charcuterie and cheese. Cava Bodega hosts an evening of talks, tapas, and wine with Javier Murúa of Bodegas Muriel, while Garavans offers an award-winning Micil Tasting, celebrating Galway’s distilling traditions.

Blas na Gaillimhe is more than a festival; it’s a celebration of Galway’s vibrant food community, fostering relationships between restaurants and producers. Founder Jp McMahon’s vision embodies a culinary extravaganza where passion and flavor unite to delight diners and industry professionals alike.
In collaboration with Galway City and Galway County Council, ;Blas na Bealtaine’ – A Taste of May, is a month-long celebration where the Blas Na Gaillimhe – A Taste of Galway network will deliver an exciting program of events and experiences to highlight the thriving food and drink scene in the city and county. From serious cuisine connoisseurs to families with children of all ages, the festival aims to provide something for everyone. Theatrical performances, oyster samples, farm tours, cheese-making demonstrations, seafood trails, distillery visits, foraging, beer masterclasses, coffee cupping, wine pairings, theatre, music, and much more await visitors.

Celebrating the best from Galway food producers
This new Galway Food Festival, is the west’s premier food festival and will celebrate the city and county’s culinary landscape, showcasing the people, produce, and passion that have firmly established Galway as the food capital of the west.
What to expect at the new food festival
The festival offers an engaging programme of talks, top class workshops, tours, and in-house events, all of which will encourage people to reconnect with where their food comes from, and learning more about what nature can provide for us and how we can connect to our communities by developing the relationship between food and culture.
Expect an exciting range of cookery demonstrations to be presented by an impressive line-up of top chefs from Galway restaurants such as Aniar, Kai, The Kings Head and more.
There will be lots of entertainment for children too with fun, interactive, educational workshops for children which see young people engaging in a number of food related activities. Also expect a popular selection of food tours is likely to involve Galway Food Tours, Jp McMahon, the Beechlawn Organic Open Farm Tour, and possibly a Galway Vegan Food Tour.
During the original Galway Food Festival more than 70,000 people attended annually, with over 100 food outlets and producers from across the city and county taking part.
