Places To Visit
Tourist Attractions & Sightseeing in Galway City and County.
Galway is a perfect base for seeing the West of Ireland, but it is also worth a visit in itself. Although it has only a few typical sightseeing spots, what makes it a wonderful place to stay is the atmosphere, the culture, the people, and the events. Although Galway is the fouth largest city in Ireland, it has retained much of its small town character and is home to many artists, writers, and artisans. Galway is the unofficial cultural capital of Ireland and its lively arts scene peaks during the summertime Galway Arts Festival. Outside of Galway City the wild and sparsely populated Connemara region offers spectacular scenery of valleys, mountains and lakes and unparalleled hill walking across the peaks of the Twelve Bens. The coast line is wrought into rocky inlets sheltering white sand beaches, and is studded with the beautiful Aran islands that make for interesting day trips. Below is a list of categories detailing the best places to visit in and around Galway.

The Burren Perfumery was founded 35 years ago at the centre of a quiet valley in the heart of the Burren. The Burren is a limestone plateau on the West Coast of Ireland, famous for its wildness and the diversity of its plant life. The flowers of the Burren inspired the original Perfumery fragrances: Man of Aran, Ilaun, Frond and Fraoch. The leading products of the the Burren Perfumery the Burren Botanicals, a range of contemporary floral waters that evoke the scents and moods of being outside at different seasons of the year. They are free from parabens and sodium lauryl sulphate, ingredients that are suspected of being harmful and are present in many of today's perfume products. The Burren Perfumery is in Carron, Co. Clare approximately one hour driving time from Shannon or Galway. Visitors can see a free audio visual on the Burren, view the distillation and soap making areas, visit the herb garden and organic tea rooms and, of course, try out Perfumery fragrances, creams, balms and other products.

Both a museum and a jewellery shop, this establishment is dedicated to the history of this Galway made ring. Named after an old fishing area in the county, the rings were worn to indicate marriage but now they are just a token of friendship and are worn by Irish and Irish descendents the world over.

The cliffs boast one of Ireland's most spectacular views. On a clear day the Aran Islands are visible in Galway Bay, as are the valleys and hills of Connemara.

There are many animals living on the cliffs. Most of these are birds, with an estimated 30,000 birds from 29 species. These include the noted Atlantic Puffins, which live in large colonies at isolated parts of the cliffs and on the small Goat Island. Also present are hawks, gulls, guillemots, shags, ravens and choughs. A new interpretive centre is now open at the Cliffs of Moher exploring different elements of the cliffs. Housed at the centre of the underground building a huge domed cave contains images, exhibits, displays & experiences that will delight young and old alike.
